Our Approach
At Port Metro Vancouver, we strive to ensure that new development meets applicable standards and minimizes impacts on adjacent tenants, communities, and the environment. To effectively manage this responsibility, we administer a Project Review Process that involves both a Planning Review and an Environmental Assessment Procedure. The Project Review Process applies to all development activities on land, water and air space administered by the Port including all property leased or licensed to other parties.

Port Land Use Plan
The Canada Marine Act requires every Canadian Port Authority to adopt a comprehensive land use plan. The plan must include the Port’s land use objectives and policy directions under which it will make development decisions.
Port Metro Vancouver’s Land Use Plan was developed with significant input from adjacent communities and other stakeholders. It designates specific land uses for Port property and facilitates coordination of land use decisions with other levels of government. New developments on Port property are expected to support the land use objectives described in the plan.
The three former Lower Mainland Ports each had a Land Use Plan, which has been merged into one document. The Plan can be downloaded below.
