2012 Port Gala Event Raises over $170,000 for Local Charities

June 12, 2012

More than one million dollars raised to date

Metro Vancouver: On Wednesday, June 6th, Port Metro Vancouver and Port industry leaders joined forces to host the 13th annual Port Gala Fundraising Event. The event was co-hosted by Port Metro Vancouver, and Port terminal businesses from across the Lower Mainland: DP World, Fraser Surrey Docks, Global Container Terminals and Western Stevedoring. More than 350 people attended the sold out ‘2012 Port Gala’ event, setting a new record.

“We are Canada’s port – but we live and work here.  All of us, as organizers of this event, as those who attended, and those who generously contributed, share a commitment to the communities that we live in. That’s why it is important that we continue to give back to these communities, through events like the Gala and in other ways throughout the year,” said Robin Silvester, President and Chief Executive Office, Port Metro Vancouver. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of those who helped organize the event and to those who attended it and contributed to it.”

The beneficiaries of the 2012 Port Gala Fundraising event will receive over $170,000 this year, bringing the total amount of funds raised since 1999 to $1,130,000. The three organizations that will receive support this year include: Arts Umbrella (Surrey), Harvest Project, and Mission Possible.
