Port urges CN and TCRC to resolve dispute quickly

11/26/2009 4:36:57 PM

On November 25, CN received notice from the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) of its plan to strike at 0001 on November 28, 2009. CN and the TCRC will meet to discuss the contract on November 27 with the help of federal mediators. CN intends to continue train operations in the event of job action.

Port Metro Vancouver urges CN and TCRC to resolve the dispute quickly. Labour disruption in the Gateway threatens Port Metro Vancouver’s reputation as a reliable port, damages the international trade reputation of the country, undermines the value of government’s continuing investments in expanding trade, and negatively impacts the potential for future private investment.

All Gateway partners share the important responsibility for preserving the movement of passengers and cargo through the Gateway. In the event of job action, Port Metro Vancouver will pursue every avenue available to restore certainty to the market as quickly as possible.
