Port Metro Vancouver - 2010 Updates Port Planning Updates for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates.aspx http://backend.userland.com/rss Thank you to our port community partners
We began our Olympic journey several years ago by supporting VANOC in its goal to host the Games. As the first port in Olympic Winter Games history to be named Official Supplier, we helped connect the Games to the world as thousands of accredited media worked from the Main Press Centre in our facility at Canada Place.

At the same time, we worked diligently to minimize any potential disruptions to your business. With your help, we ensured the seamless, reliable and secure transit of passengers and goods through our Gateway. Together we contributed to a historic event in our port cities and, hopefully, created some lasting legacies that will extend far beyond the Games. This accomplishment would not be possible without the support and commitment of our port community partners.

We take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks. If you have a comment or question about our Olympic Planning Project, please contact us.
http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/10-03-24/Thank_you_to_our_port_community_partners.aspx megan.sweet http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/10-03-24/Thank_you_to_our_port_community_partners.aspx 195c6fb3-c1af-49ec-babc-53dac23305f8 Wed, 24 Mar 2010 16:32:00 GMT Games time communication: update
We hold daily briefings with internal and external resources to discuss emerging issues related to the Games and we continue to monitor traffic, labour, security and media.

If issues arise for you during the Games, please contact us through one of the following channels:

For emerging issues:
Please touch base with your usual Port Metro Vancouver contact or call us toll free 1.888.767.8826.

For emergencies:
Our Port Operations & Security phone number, 604.665.9086, is available 24/7.

For general questions:
Email us at 2010info.

We will continue to keep our customers and stakeholders updated to ensure the seamless, reliable and secure transit of passengers and goods through our gateway.
http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/10-02-22/Games_time_communication_update.aspx megan.sweet http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/10-02-22/Games_time_communication_update.aspx 5407ffba-a13a-47d4-af78-5e3c214177d3 Mon, 22 Feb 2010 00:00:00 GMT OMOC Liaison Officers
Our 4-member team provides port-specific knowledge to the OMOC to help maintain marine security and minimize disruptions to port business during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

With almost 75 years of experience among them, our OMOC Liaison Officers have worked in a broad range of settings including Navy, Coast Guard, Police, Transport Canada and Port Metro Vancouver, aboard search and rescue vessels, patrol boats and even tall ships.

Bringing this knowledge and experience to the OMOC table, the team provides daily port operational reports, ship movements, marine event information and localized port knowledge. The plan is based on the need to transport athletes, officials and all Games participants safely, reliably and efficiently throughout the region, while also taking into consideration the transportation needs of local residents, businesses and visitors.

The final phase of the plan outlines details of temporary street closures planned in the City of Vancouver for February 10, 12 and 28 and March 12. The closures are necessary to help ensure successful ceremonies where an estimated 100,000 spectators, visitors, reporters, and volunteers will fill the City of Vancouver’s downtown core. For more information about the transportation plan, click here.

Throughout the Games, the Port community is encouraged to plan ahead, allow some extra travel time, and use alternative travel modes for daily commuting, such as walking, use of transit, and carpooling, instead of driving alone. By adjusting our own commuting routines during the Games, we can help alleviate traffic pressures and provide more room for commercial traffic. We are committed to minimizing any potential disruptions to business during the Games to ensure the seamless, reliable and secure transit of passengers and goods through our Gateway.

We have been working with our terminal partners to address concerns regarding potential impacts of Games-related activities on South Shore container terminal operations. The following is a summary to address specific questions about night gates, staging and traffic considerations.

Hours of operation:
South Shore terminal gates will be open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the Olympic Winter Games (February 12 – 28, 2010). Learn more about South Shore Corridor plans.

Night gates:
South Shore terminals will consider night gate activity if business warrants. At this point, additional gate hours are being considered for large customers whose infrastructure supports these operations. Large importers are encouraged to collaborate with each other to ensure sufficient volume is available to make a night gate operation viable. Large exporters will be considered as well, provided their business falls within terminal guidelines. Please contact terminals directly for details. Learn more about South Shore operations.

Staging:
Centerm and Vanterm terminals have contingency plans in place to mitigate container truck traffic impacts resulting from Games-related activities. Additional staging will be provided if required. Learn more about traffic considerations.

Cargo:
Freight movements will continue as normal, 24/7, with the exception of Dangerous Goods in the Downtown Vancouver core only. Learn more about restrictions on Dangerous Goods.

Access:
To better coordinate access on the South Shore, we have implemented a radio communication program with our terminal partners. The security team facilitating access to the accommodation vessels berthed at Ballantyne Pier will also participate. Learn more about terminal access.

To ensure we are meeting your needs, contact us with any questions or concerns, by email 2010info@portmetrovancouver.com or phone 1.888.767.8826.
http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/09-12-17/South_Shore_Terminal_Operations.aspx megan.sweet http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/09-12-17/South_Shore_Terminal_Operations.aspx 2e426268-45d3-4c93-b408-6c4098282a3f Thu, 17 Dec 2009 16:30:00 GMT Olympic Rings light up Vancouver Harbour
A local barge is carrying an unusual cargo for the next five months: a set of 14-metre high Olympic Rings in Vancouver harbour. The barge is part of a provincial initiative to celebrate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games. With more than 56,000 LEDs, the Olympic rings will be a memorable sight for visitors and residents alike.

Positioning the 98 metre long barge in the harbour was a challenge requiring participation of the entire port community. Measuring 22 metres high, the barge and rings posed a risk to the busy float plane operations in Coal Harbour. Port Metro Vancouver worked with float plane operators, along with the Province, Seaspan, local police forces, the federal government and other port users and stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure location for the barge that minimizes impacts to port operations.

Four temporary piles were driven to secure the barge in its current location off Stanley Park, directly in front of the Main Media Centre, placing the Port at centre stage for the 2010 Winter Games.
http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/09-11-18/Olympic_Rings_light_up_Vancouver_Harbour.aspx megan.sweet http://portmetrovancouver.com/2010/Updates/09-11-18/Olympic_Rings_light_up_Vancouver_Harbour.aspx 3559c261-262b-46e0-a0a6-281360a01756 Wed, 18 Nov 2009 12:01:00 GMT Port hosts second stakeholder information session
Following brief presentations, topics of interest were discussed, including security, marine operations and surface transportation.

Opening remarks were made by Graham Kee, Port Metro Vancouver’s Vice President of Olympic Operations.
